Review on Group Presentation 5: Remuneration by Vivid Project Group

This week’s presentation is by the Vivid group on the topic- Remuneration. The overall oral presentation was not engaging and lack of interaction with the audience. The first and last speaker managed to lift up the atmosphere by having a more lively tone as they speak but the overall performance was a bit dull and could not grab the audiences’ attention. In terms of the written presentation, the graphics or layout were simple to read, the down side of the written presentation was it has too many words for a presentation slides and that method of communication is not so effective as the audience tend to lose focus on the topic.

To strengthen the points and topic, the team was able to provide some examples such as an image of a pay slip and explaining the format of a pay slip and what information should be on the pay slip. By explaining, the presenter caught the attention of the crowd and it shows a form of interaction with the audience. However, not all presenter tried to engage with the audience, some of them seem lost and confused by the topic they are talking about, it was very obvious that they were reading from the paper or notes they have and while speaking, they got lost and did not understand their own points. It was clear that the presenters did not prepare or prepared last minute. The fact that they did not understand the points, it was difficult for the audience to be able to understand, and therefore, I was confused as they speak.

The team gained their information from the Fair Work website and have gotten general information. To emphasize on the points, they too show some images alongside. They have referenced the website and images that they have. I thought it would be nicer if they had provided more specific examples of how is the topic related to their group project.

The members could improve their performance by preparing and having an arrangement (who is presenting first, who is next etc.) because the flow of the presentation is important to show that one topic/subtopic leads to another instead of throwing pieces of information to the audience. The members should be more prepared and also not dissolved in their own points, the part where the presenter got confused at his own content and points made clearly shows that he was unprepared and that also contributed to the downside of the presentation. It would be really good to have an in depth understanding on the topic before being able to help the audience understand the topic.

Review on Group Presentation: Conflict (Group 2: Kinecting the Boxes)

Kinecting the Boxes is the second group to present on the topic “Conflict”. The group managed to put up a very presentation slide. The slides were interesting and visually attractive to look at. The oral presentation was interesting at the beginning as the speakers spoke loud and clear however I felt that they have lost the audiences as the presentation goes on because it was clearly seen that the members read off their notes and papers. Although the pronunciation was clear but it felt like they were reading instead of presenting. The presentation was not too interactive as they were no eye contact with the audience. Some speakers were better at communicating and managed to connect with the audience.

The written presentation looked nice and appealing. However, the texts were too small and contained too many words on the slides which made it hard to read and also too much information too digest. Due to the amount of words they have, it was a bit difficult to focus. The group touched on ‘responding to conflict’, characteristics of conflict and 6 key characteristics of dealing with conflicts, resolution influence factors, resolution benefits, the techniques (e.g force and compromise) and explained on how that works in general. The have provided one example that relates to their team with the topic Conflict which is Techniques, and one of the techniques they use is by force. The group leader herself said that she forced them to work within the timeframe that the group has, although she personally does not like that.

I do not really know if the members understood the conceptual context of their theme collaboration because the members read directly from the notes or papers they have and it really looked as though they were reading and not giving a presentation. As for the images, on the ‘characteristics of conflict’ slide they slotted an image in and there was no image reference below they image. The overall presentation was informative in a general way but oral presentation could be improved and specific examples should be included to show connection between their group and the topic.

Review on Group Presentation: Conflict (Group 1: DCLD group)

The DCLD group presented on the topic ‘Conflict’. The content the group has provided were very general. They managed to give the definition of conflict and the types of conflict. The way the presenters presented does not seem very engaging. The oral presentation was clear and contains a lot of information, it was well spoken however the one thing I have noticed was the members were reading directly off the notes or papers they have and therefore very little eye contact were made with the audience.

The written presentation was simple and nice. They provided point forms and elaboration of the point forms in the slides they have. The words however were a bit small to see from a distance but it is still acceptable. I just thought that it would be better to cut down a little bit on words to put on a presentation slide as they were reading and explaining their points from the paper and thus it was a bit difficult to concentrate on what they are saying and what was written on the slides.

The group did not really manage to provide very specific example of how does the topic ‘conflict’ relate to their team but what they managed to give was examples such as positive and negative conflict and gave us 6 important keys to resolution strategies and these are listening, open mindedness, act immediately, get together, thinking about other people’s needs and mediation. The overall conceptual context was informative but too general and although they have a lot to say, but it was really hard to tell of the group have a strong grasp of the conceptual context of their theme collaboration because they looked at the paper too much and it was really hard to tell if they fully understood the topic.

The images provided made their presentation interesting for example the image showing the comparison of a Apple phone and Samsung phone and the apps on the two phones, they have included also flow graph/chart when talking about ‘prevention strategies’ which shows a critical path analysis they made. The referencing was done poorly as there were no image references at the bottom of the images they have.

The team could improve by being more confident while presenting and refer less to their notes and have more eye contact with the audience. Other than that, it would be better to cut down on words in the presentation slides as it helps the audience to be more focused. Also, the team should have key points that they want to emphasize on so that by the end of the presentation, the audience could remember their content through key points.

Individual Milestone Submission

This is the first individual submission which summarises the progress of our group project throughout 8 weeks of study. The group I was put into was Shades of Black which is from Project Black and this involves theory and practical work related to the Honda CB750; from looking at the bike ( helped us understand and get a picture our how the bike is at its original state, to deconstruct and model the bike and frame (helped us understand more with measuring the details and research on the bike and frame as well as other elements that made up the bike as a whole) and at the later stages or phases we will design to produce a new and functional piece. As a team, I thought the whole experience is very challenging and productive as we have to do research because the resources we have is very limited and I believe the end product will be very satisfying.

To ensure our project will succeed by the end of this semester, we have a timeline that we follow:

Week 1
Submission of Curriculum Vitae to determine the groups

Week 2
- As a group, establish a Wiki page and come up with the back brief of our project.
- Having a Facebook group for easier communication

Individual Milestone

For my individual milestone, I wish to accomplish personally my modelling skills with the SolidWorks software. At this stage, I have managed to model the different elements that made up the bike and the modelling progress is shown through my weekly progress submission on the blog. Individual milestone to me means showing a productive and efficient progress in order to produce quality project submission by the end of this semester.

To deliver our group project successfully, the design phase is very important and plays a huge role as it involves modelling job and my part as a modeller, I find it interesting and difficult at the same time because it requires a lot of time and effort as our access and resources about the bike is very limited and we have to measure up the dimensions and analyse how it should be modelled. And because the black project is not like our ordinary designed-based projects, it is very challenging because we need to increase our knowledge on this so that we have a better understanding of the project.

Other than the modelling which people find more appealing in terms of visual, there are actually a lot of behind the scenes job that people could not see, which is the housekeeping part that needs to be taken care of. That important item or element is as important as designing and that is developing and updating the Wiki page. Along with the group leader, I am developing, editing and updating the group's Wiki page so that the page is up-to-date. This is very important as our assignment is marked based on individual blogs and for the group, it is the Wiki page. The Wiki page not only acts an assignment criteria but also as a source that is accessible and viewed by the public and therefore to our group, the Wiki is quite significant as the Wiki will go on even after out group project has ended.
